We went to Lombok, Indonesia in January. I didn’t take a phone, or a computer, or a digital camera – just film. It was really nice to unplug for fourteen days and take in all the colour and sounds and smells of this beautiful island.
Here are a few excerpts from my journal:
“We travelled over the mountain, through jungle and winding roads with monkeys by the wayside. We explored the ‘gilis’ or ‘little islands’ of the south west. A long jetty stretched out over the blue sea with a thatched roofed hut at its end. We took a long boat to the islands where we snorkelled and saw angel fish and bright blue star fish. The water was warm and soothing and all around us we could see the faded outlines of the Lombok hills and listen to the thunder growing ever more demanding. By the time we made it back in it was raining, the drops creating pretty perforations on the water’s surface.”
“We made our way to the waterfall, or ‘air terjun’. The water was cool and I could feel the slippery stones beneath my feet. And then we saw it, a glimpse of the shimmery mist falling from the mountain between the trees. I stood on the rocks and watched the water fall, getting drenched from the mist.”
Lombok was a wonderful adventure, and we’re so blessed to be able to see and experience other parts of God’s beautiful world.
The following images were taken using a Contax G2 with Portra 400, Portra 200, Fuji 400 and Kodak Gold. Thanks to my husband Tim for taking some of these images – sometimes, you see things better than I ever will my dear.
I love film photography and you gave this place and these people so much justice by capturing it this way….your photography tells natural life stories…..love it!
